Trisha Goddard, the popular TV presenter and journalist, has bravely shared her battle with cancer for the second time. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy. She thought she had beaten the disease, but in 2019, she discovered that it had returned and spread to her lymph nodes.
In an interview, Trisha revealed how she decided to stop hiding her condition and face it head-on. She was joined by her supportive husband Allen, who has been by her side throughout her ordeal.
How Trisha Found Out About Her Cancer Recurrence
Trisha said that she had no symptoms or signs that her cancer had come back. She was feeling healthy and happy, and had just celebrated her 60th birthday with a party in New York, where she lives with Allen. She had also launched a successful podcast, Trisha Talks, where she interviews celebrities and experts on various topics.
However, during a routine check-up in October 2019, her doctor noticed a lump in her neck and ordered a biopsy. The results confirmed that her cancer had returned and was now stage 4, meaning that it had spread beyond the original site.
Trisha said that she was shocked and devastated by the news, but also felt angry and betrayed by her body. She wondered why she had to go through this again, after all the treatments and surgeries she had endured before.
“I felt like I had been stabbed in the back by my own body,” she said. “I had done everything right, I had followed the doctors’ advice, I had eaten well, exercised, meditated, prayed. And yet, here I was, facing cancer again. It was unfair and cruel.”
How Trisha Decided to Stop Hiding Her Cancer
Trisha said that she initially decided to keep her cancer recurrence a secret from the public and most of her friends and family. She only told Allen, her three children, and a few close confidants. She said that she did not want to burden anyone with her problems, or to be seen as a victim or a charity case.
She also said that she wanted to maintain a positive and professional image, and to continue working on her projects and passions. She did not want her cancer to define her or limit her.
“I didn’t want people to pity me or treat me differently,” she said. “I wanted to be strong and independent, and to carry on as normal. I didn’t want my cancer to take over my life or my identity.”
However, Trisha said that she soon realised that hiding her cancer was taking a toll on her mental and emotional health. She said that she felt isolated and lonely, and that she was living a double life. She said that she was constantly worried about being exposed or found out, and that she was lying to the people she cared about.
She also said that she felt guilty and ashamed of her condition, and that she was denying herself the support and compassion that she needed and deserved.
“I realised that I was doing myself more harm than good by hiding my cancer,” she said. “I was putting myself under so much stress and pressure, and I was missing out on the love and kindness that was out there for me. I was also robbing myself of the opportunity to raise awareness and inspire others who might be going through the same thing.”
Trisha said that she decided to change her attitude and approach, and to embrace her cancer as part of her journey. She said that she decided to open up about her cancer and to share her story with the world. She said that she wanted to be honest and authentic, and to show her vulnerability and strength.
She said that she also wanted to use her platform and influence to educate and empower others who might be facing cancer or other challenges. She said that she wanted to be a voice and a role model for those who might feel alone or hopeless.
“I decided to stop hiding my cancer and to start living with it,” she said. “I decided to be proud of who I am and what I have overcome. I decided to be brave and bold, and to speak my truth. I decided to be a leader and a fighter, and to make a difference.”
How Trisha Is Coping With Her Cancer Treatment
Trisha said that she is currently undergoing immunotherapy, a type of treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. She said that she has monthly injections of a drug called Keytruda, which helps to boost her immune system and to target the cancer cells.
She said that the treatment has been effective so far, and that her scans have shown that her cancer has shrunk and stabilised. She said that she has minimal side effects, and that she feels energetic and optimistic.
She said that she is also taking care of her physical and mental health by following a holistic and balanced lifestyle. She said that she eats a plant-based diet, drinks plenty of water, exercises regularly, meditates daily, and sleeps well. She said that she also surrounds herself with positive and supportive people, and that she enjoys her hobbies and passions.
She said that she is grateful for every day and every moment, and that she lives in the present and the joy. She said that she does not let her cancer stop her from pursuing her dreams and goals, and that she has many exciting plans and projects in the pipeline.
She said that she is hopeful and confident about her future, and that she believes that she can beat cancer again.
“I’m not going to let cancer get me down or hold me back,” she said. “I’m not going to give up or give in. I’m going to fight and win. I’m going to live and love. I’m going to be happy and free.”
Trisha said that she hopes that her story will inspire and encourage others who might be facing cancer or other difficulties. She said that she wants to show them that they are not alone, and that they can overcome anything with courage and faith.
She said that she also wants to thank everyone who has supported her and stood by her, especially her husband Allen, who has been her rock and her soulmate.
“He has been amazing, he has been there for me every step of the way,” she said. “He has been my best friend, my lover, my partner, my cheerleader, my protector, my healer. He has made me laugh, he has made me cry, he has made me feel alive. He has given me hope, he has given me strength, he has given me love. He is my everything.”
Trisha said that she is looking forward to celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary with Allen in April, and that they are planning a romantic trip to Hawaii. She said that they are also looking forward to spending more time with their children and grandchildren, and to creating more memories and adventures together.
Trisha said that she is happy and fulfilled, and that she has no regrets or complaints. She said that she is proud of her life and her legacy, and that she has nothing to hide anymore.
“I’m not afraid of cancer, I’m not afraid of death, I’m not afraid of anything,” she said. “I’m living my best life, I’m living my truth, I’m living my purpose. I’m living with cancer, and I’m living well.”
