Sharon Stone, the renowned actress, author, activist and artist, has unveiled her first solo art exhibition in Europe at Galerie Deschler in Berlin. The exhibition, titled ‘Totem’, features a collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations that reflect Stone’s personal and spiritual journey. Stone has also been honoured with the Cinema for Peace Award 2024 for her humanitarian and philanthropic work.
What is ‘Totem’ and What Does It Mean to Sharon Stone?
‘Totem’ is a word that Stone coined to describe the connection between the self and the universe. It is derived from the Hebrew word ‘ot’, which means ‘sign’, and the Latin word ‘tem’, which means ‘time’. Stone explained that ‘Totem’ represents the signs and synchronicities that guide her through life and help her find her purpose.
Stone said that she has been creating art since she was a child, and that it has been a source of healing and expression for her. She said that she uses art to explore her inner and outer worlds, and to communicate with her higher self and the divine.
“I have always been an artist, it is part of who I am and how I see the world,” she said. “Art is my way of connecting with myself and with the universe. It is my way of saying thank you, I love you, I’m sorry, I forgive you, I’m here, I’m listening, I’m learning, I’m growing.”
Stone said that ‘Totem’ is a culmination of her artistic journey, and that it showcases her diverse and eclectic style. She said that she works with various mediums and materials, such as acrylic, oil, watercolour, clay, metal, wood, glass, fabric, paper, and found objects. She said that she does not follow any rules or conventions, but rather follows her intuition and inspiration.
“I don’t have a fixed or formal method of creating art, I just go with the flow and let the art speak to me and through me,” she said. “I don’t limit myself to one genre or theme, I explore everything that interests me and resonates with me. I don’t try to fit into any box or label, I just express myself authentically and freely.”
Stone said that ‘Totem’ is a reflection of her personal and spiritual journey, and that it reveals her joys and sorrows, her hopes and fears, her dreams and realities. She said that she hopes that her art will inspire and touch others, and that it will invite them to discover their own ‘Totem’.
“I hope that people will see themselves in my art, and that they will feel something when they look at it,” she said. “I hope that they will find their own signs and meanings, and that they will connect with their own soul and spirit. I hope that they will realise that they are not alone, and that they are part of something bigger and greater.”
How Sharon Stone Received the Cinema for Peace Award 2024
Sharon Stone has also been recognised for her humanitarian and philanthropic work with the Cinema for Peace Award 2024. The award is given to individuals who use their influence and platform to promote peace, justice, human rights, and environmental protection.
Stone has been a long-time advocate and supporter of various causes and organisations, such as the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the Planet Hope Foundation, the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Dalai Lama Foundation. She has also been involved in raising awareness and funds for the victims of natural disasters, such as the Haiti earthquake, the Nepal earthquake, and the Australian bushfires.
Stone said that she is honoured and humbled to receive the Cinema for Peace Award 2024, and that she is grateful for the opportunity to use her voice and visibility to make a positive difference in the world. She said that she believes that cinema and art have the power to inspire and educate people, and to create social change and transformation.
“I believe that cinema and art are not only forms of entertainment, but also forms of enlightenment and empowerment,” she said. “I believe that cinema and art can open our minds and hearts, and can challenge our perspectives and prejudices. Stone said that she is dedicated and committed to continuing her humanitarian and philanthropic work, and that she hopes to inspire and encourage others to do the same. She said that she believes that everyone has the potential and responsibility to contribute to the common good, and to create a more peaceful and harmonious world.
