The nominations for the 2023 Olivier Awards have been announced, and there are several big names in the running for theatre prizes. Among them are Jodie Comer and Paul Mescal, who have both received nods for their outstanding performances.
Comer is up for best actress for her one-woman play Prima Facie, in which she portrays a barrister who becomes the plaintiff in a trial after being date-raped by a colleague. Meanwhile, Mescal has been nominated for his role in A Streetcar Named Desire.
The most nominated show overall is My Neighbour Totoro, a stage adaptation of the beloved Studio Ghibli film, which has received nine nominations. Standing at the Sky’s Edge, a musical about life in a Sheffield flat over three generations, has also received significant recognition with eight nominations, including best original score for Richard Hawley.
