Louis Vuitton: The Moonwalking Illustrator

Louis Vuitton is a French luxury brand that is known for its leather goods, accessories, and ready-to-wear. The brand has a long history of collaborating with artists, such as Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Jeff Koons. One of the most recent and remarkable collaborations was with Virgil Abloh, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear, and Reggie Know, a Chicago-based illustrator and animator.

Reggie Know, who is also known as the moonwalking illustrator, created a series of animated characters that were featured on Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2021 menswear collection. The characters, which included a boy, a girl, a dog, and a flower, represented the themes of diversity, inclusivity, and optimism that Abloh wanted to convey. The characters also appeared on the runway show, which was filmed in different cities around the world, and on the digital invitations, which were sent as plush toys to the guests.

Pietro Ruffo, who is known for his poetic and political artworks, created a series of prints that were featured on Dior’s autumn/winter 2020/2021 womenswear collection. The prints, which included maps, stars, animals, and flowers, represented the themes of freedom, exploration, and nature that Chiuri wanted to express. The prints also appeared on the set design, which was inspired by a library, and on the accessories, such as scarves, bags, and shoes.
