The London Art Fair celebrates its 36th edition in 2024, showcasing over 100 galleries from 14 countries across various venues in London from 17 to 21 January 2024, including the Business Design Centre in Islington. The fair features a diverse range of modern and contemporary art, from the established to the emerging, from the local to the global, from the classic to the cutting-edge.
The fair is a celebration of art in all its forms, from painting and sculpture to photography and video, from abstraction and realism to conceptualism and minimalism, from the 20th century to the present day. One of the highlights of the fair is the curated sections, which showcase the latest trends, themes, and practices in the art world. These include:
Art Projects, a section dedicated to emerging galleries and artists, featuring solo shows, group presentations, and large-scale installations. This year’s Art Projects is curated by Anna McNay, a freelance art writer and editor, who has selected 34 galleries from 12 countries, exploring the theme of “Reimagining Reality”.
Photo50, a section devoted to contemporary photography, featuring 50 works by 10 artists, curated by a guest curator each year. This year’s Photo50 is curated by Tim Clark, the editor-in-chief and director of 1000 Words, an online magazine and platform for photography. His theme is “The Image as Witness”, examining the role of photography in documenting and bearing witness to social and political issues.
Platform, a new section launched, focusing on a single distinct theme each year, presented by a small number of galleries. This year’s Platform is curated by Candida Stevens, a gallerist and curator based in Chichester, who has chosen the theme of “The Human Condition”, featuring works by six artists that reflect on the complexities and contradictions of being human.
The London Art Fair 2024 is not only a showcase of art, but also a reflection of the times we live in, the challenges we face, and the hopes we share.
