Fashion was another expressive and diverse aspect of 2006, as it reflected the personalities and preferences of many people. Some of the most popular and distinctive styles and trends of the year were:
- Skinny jeans: The tight-fitting denim pants, popularized by celebrities such as Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and Lindsay Lohan, were a staple of 2006 fashion, as they complemented various tops, shoes, and accessories. Skinny jeans were also a symbol of the indie rock and emo subcultures, as they were worn by bands such as The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, and Fall Out Boy.
- Leggings: The stretchy and comfortable leggings, inspired by the 1980s, were a versatile and fashionable item of 2006, as they could be paired with dresses, skirts, tunics, or oversized shirts. Leggings were also a way of expressing individuality and creativity, as they came in various colors, patterns, and materials.
- Ugg boots: The sheepskin boots, originating from Australia and New Zealand, were a cozy and casual footwear choice of 2006, as they kept the feet warm and comfortable. Ugg boots were also a celebrity favorite, as they were seen on stars such as Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, and Nicole Richie.

- Guitar Hero II: The rhythm game, developed by Harmonix and published by Activision, was a sequel to the 2005 hit Guitar Hero, that allowed players to simulate playing the guitar along with various rock songs. The game featured a guitar-shaped controller, that had five colored buttons on the neck and a strum bar on the body, and a screen, that displayed scrolling notes that corresponded to the buttons. The game also included a career mode, a multiplayer mode, and a practice mode.
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: The role-playing game, developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, was the fourth installment in the acclaimed The Elder Scrolls series, that immersed players in a vast and open fantasy world. The game featured a character creation system, that allowed players to customize their appearance, skills, and attributes, and a dynamic gameplay system, that adjusted the difficulty and content based on the player’s actions and choices. The game also boasted stunning graphics, realistic physics, and a rich soundtrack.
