Fans of Freida McFadden’s Housemaid thriller series are in for a treat, as Bookouture has announced the acquisition of the third book in the series, titled The Housemaid is Watching. The book, which is set to be published in summer 2024, will continue the story of Millie, the housemaid who has a dark and dangerous past, and who finds herself in another perilous situation involving a seemingly perfect family.
The Housemaid thriller series, which has sold over 1.8 million copies and has been translated into 37 languages, follows the adventures of Millie, a desperate woman who takes a job as a housemaid for a wealthy family, only to discover that they are not what they seem. The first book in the series, The Housemaid, was published in April 2022, and was Bookouture’s highest-ever earning title. The second book in the series, The Housemaid’s Secret, was published in February 2023, and revealed more secrets and twists in Millie’s life.
The Housemaid is Watching, the third book in the series, will take place several years after the events of the previous books, and will show how Millie tries to leave her past behind and start a new life with her husband and children. However, she soon realizes that her past is not so easy to escape, as she becomes involved in another mystery involving a new family that hires her as a housemaid. The book promises to deliver more suspense, more surprises, and more of Millie’s dark humour.
The Housemaid thriller series has also attracted the attention of the film industry, as the film rights to The Housemaid were snapped up by Todd Lieberman’s new production company Hidden Pictures, financed by Lionsgate, in a four-way auction. The film adaptation is expected to be a blockbuster hit, with a star-studded cast and a gripping plot.
The Housemaid thriller series is written by Freida McFadden, who is also a part-time doctor specialising in brain injury. McFadden has self-published 20 books, including The Locked Door, The Memory Watcher, and The Good Widow. McFadden said: “I am thrilled to share the next chapter of Millie’s story with my readers. The Housemaid is Watching will be published by Bookouture in e-book and audio formats in summer 2024, and by Sourcebooks in print format via the Poisoned Pen Press imprint in June 2024.
