Stratford, the east London district that hosted the 2012 Olympics, has been hailed as the new cultural centre of London, according to a report by the Centre for London think tank. The report, titled Stratford Rising: How East London Is Becoming A Global Cultural Hub, claims that Stratford has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past decade, attracting a diverse and vibrant mix of cultural institutions, events and audiences. The report cites the opening of the London Stadium, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Westfield shopping centre, the Theatre Royal Stratford East, the Stratford Circus Arts Centre, the East Bank cultural quarter and the International Quarter London as examples of Stratford’s cultural assets. The report also praises Stratford’s role in fostering innovation, creativity and inclusion, as well as its potential to become a global destination for culture and tourism.
