Pantone, the global leader in color standards and trends, has announced its color of the year for 2024: Very Peri, a vibrant and vivacious shade of purple that blends the warmth of pink and the coolness of blue. According to Pantone, Very Peri represents the optimism and creativity of the post-pandemic world, as well as the aspiration for harmony and balance.
“Very Peri is a color that inspires joy and confidence, while also expressing a sense of calm and stability,” said Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. “It is a color that celebrates the resilience and ingenuity of the human spirit, and encourages us to embrace the possibilities of the future.”
Very Peri is not a typical purple, but rather a unique and nuanced hue that can adapt to different contexts and moods. It can be playful and whimsical, or sophisticated and elegant. It can be paired with contrasting colors, such as green or orange, or with complementary tones, such as pink or blue. It can be used in fashion, beauty, design, or art, to create eye-catching and expressive statements.
“Purple is a color that has a long and rich history, associated with royalty, spirituality, and creativity,” said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, in an interview. “Very Peri is a modern and fresh interpretation of purple, that reflects the dynamic and diverse culture of our times.”
Pantone has been selecting a color of the year since 2000, based on extensive research and analysis of various influences, such as social, economic, environmental, and technological factors. The color of the year is intended to capture the mood and essence of the year ahead, and to influence and inspire various industries and consumers.
Some of the previous colors of the year include Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray in 2021, a combination of bright and neutral colors that symbolized hope and resilience amid the Covid-19 pandemic; Classic Blue in 2020, a timeless and elegant color that evoked tranquility and trust in a turbulent year; and Living Coral in 2019, a lively and warm color that celebrated the beauty and diversity of nature.
Very Peri is the first purple color to be chosen as the color of the year by Pantone, and the second time that a single color has been selected, after Classic Blue. It is a color that reflects the spirit and vision of 2024, a year that promises to be full of innovation and transformation.
