Mac DeMarco is not your typical indie rocker. He is not shy, introverted, or pretentious. He is not afraid to make fun of himself, his music, or his fans. He is not concerned with being cool, trendy, or fashionable. He is, in his own words, a “shit disturber”

DeMarco, who was born in Canada in 1990, has been making music since he was a teenager. He started out as a backing musician for various bands, before launching his solo career in 2012 with the mini-album Rock and Roll Night Club. Since then, he has released six full-length albums, including his latest, One Wayne G, which came out in 2023. His style of music has been described as “blue wave”, “slacker rock”, or “jizz jazz”

DeMarco’s music is a blend of indie rock, indie pop, psychedelic pop, and jangle pop. He plays most of the instruments himself, and records his songs in his home studio, dubbed “Jizz Jazz Studios”. His songs are catchy, melodic, and often humorous, with lyrics that range from personal to absurd. Some of his most popular songs include “Freaking Out the Neighborhood”, “Chamber of Reflection”, “Here Comes the Cowboy”, and “Nobody”.

DeMarco’s personality is as quirky as his music. He is known for his goofy antics, such as wearing oversized clothes, smoking cigarettes, making funny faces, and pulling pranks on his fans and friends. He is also known for his laid-back attitude, his generosity, and his honesty. He often interacts with his fans on social media, shares his personal phone number, and invites them to his shows and parties. He also does not shy away from talking about his family, his girlfriend, his struggles, and his opinions.

DeMarco’s appeal lies in his authenticity and his originality. He does not try to fit into any mold or follow any rules. He does not care about fame, money, or critics. He makes music for himself and for his fans, who appreciate his sincerity and his humour. He is a breath of fresh air in the indie rock scene, and a role model for anyone who wants to be themselves and have fun. He is Mac DeMarco, the indie rocker who doesn’t take himself too seriously…
