Wicked, the smash-hit musical that reimagines the classic Wizard of Oz tale from the perspective of the witches, has been enchanting audiences in London’s West End since 2006. The show, which is based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire, follows the unlikely friendship and rivalry between Elphaba, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the blonde and bubbly Good Witch of the North. The musical features a score by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, and a direction by Joe Mantello.
Wicked has won numerous awards, including three Olivier Awards, two Evening Standard Awards, and ten WhatsOnStage Awards. It has also been seen by over 10 million people in London, making it the ninth longest-running show in the West End. The show is currently playing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, where it has recently announced its new cast members, who will join the show from 12 March 2024.
The new cast members are Michael Fenton Stevens as The Wizard, Graham Kent as Doctor Dillamond, and Laura Harrison as Standby for Elphaba. Fenton Stevens is a veteran actor and comedian, who has appeared in shows such as Spamalot, The Producers, and Mamma Mia. Kent is a versatile performer, who has played roles in shows such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Lion King. Harrison is a rising star, who has impressed audiences in shows such as Legally Blonde, Beautiful, and Heathers.
The new cast members will join the current cast members, who will continue in their roles. They are Alexia Khadime as Elphaba, Lucy St. Louis as Glinda, Ryan Reid as Fiyero, Sophie-Louise Dann as Madame Morrible, Caitlin Anderson as Nessarose, Joe Thompson-Oubari as Boq, Lisa-Anne Wood as Standby for Glinda, and a talented ensemble of performers.
