Nate Bargatze is one of the most successful comedians in the world, with multiple Netflix specials, a best-selling book, and a loyal fan base. But behind his hilarious jokes and witty observations, there is a woman who supports him and makes him laugh: his wife, Laura Baines.
The Beginning of Their Relationship
Nate and Laura met in 2003, when they were both working at Applebee’s in Chicago. Nate was a waiter and Laura was a hostess. They hit it off right away and started dating soon after.
Nate told People magazine that he knew Laura was the one for him when he saw how she handled his comedy career. “She was very supportive. She would come to shows, she would laugh. She was never like, ‘You need to get a real job.’ She was always on board with it,” he said.
Laura also shared her admiration for Nate’s passion and talent. “He was always funny. He always had a good sense of humor. He was always writing jokes and trying them out. He was very dedicated to his craft,” she said.
The Challenges They Faced
Nate and Laura’s relationship was not always easy. They had to deal with long-distance, financial struggles, and family issues. Nate moved to New York in 2004 to pursue comedy, while Laura stayed in Chicago to finish college. They maintained their relationship through phone calls and visits, but it was hard to be apart.
Nate also faced many rejections and failures in his comedy career, which affected his confidence and mood. He told Forbes that he almost quit comedy several times, but Laura encouraged him to keep going. “She was always there for me. She always believed in me. She always told me I was funny and I could do it,” he said.
Laura also had her own challenges. She suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth to their daughter, Harper, in 2012. She told People that Nate was very supportive and understanding during that difficult time. “He was very patient. He was very helpful. He was very loving. He was very attentive to me and our baby,” she said.
The Success They Enjoyed
Nate and Laura’s hard work and perseverance paid off. Nate became a rising star in the comedy scene, landing gigs on The Tonight Show, Conan, and Comedy Central. He also released his first Netflix special, The Tennessee Kid, in 2019, which was a huge hit. He followed it up with another Netflix special, The Greatest Average American, in 2021, which was also well-received. He also published his memoir, I Love You, Daddy, in 2020, which became a New York Times bestseller.
Laura also achieved her own success. She graduated from college with a degree in psychology and became a licensed therapist. She also started her own podcast, The Nateland Podcast, with Nate and his friend and fellow comedian, Aaron Weber. She also became a mother to their second child, a son named Jones, in 2015.
The Future They Look Forward To
Nate and Laura are still going strong after 18 years of marriage. They live in Nashville, Tennessee, with their two kids and their dog, Mable. They enjoy spending time together as a family, watching movies, playing games, and traveling. They also support each other’s dreams and goals, and celebrate each other’s achievements.
Nate told People that he is grateful for Laura and their relationship. “She is my best friend. She is my partner. She is my everything. She makes me a better person. She makes me a better comedian. She makes me happy,” he said.
Laura also expressed her love and appreciation for Nate. “He is my soulmate. He is my rock. He is my hero. He makes me laugh. He makes me feel loved. He makes me proud,” she said.
Nate and Laura are a perfect example of how love and laughter can overcome any obstacle and create a beautiful and lasting bond. They are not only a celebrity couple, but a comedy couple, who share their humor and happiness with each other and the world.
