The newest London cinema, Ealing Picturehouse, is opening its doors for the first time this weekend, and we have an idea of what to expect when you visit this sparkling new eight-screen complex in B W5.
Located in the new Filmworks development on Ealing Broadway, the cinema boasts 900 seats, a bar, café, and plenty of thoughtful touches. It is situated on the site occupied by the Forum cinema since 1934, which later became ABC and then UCG. Some of the fixtures in the new cinema have even been brought back from the Forum.
On Sunday, October 22nd, there will be a screening of “Ladykillers” to kick off a series of old classic films. Young moviegoers will be pleased to hear that the restrooms are designed for individual cinephiles. Currently, Greta Gerwig’s sweet tones are playing in the RA, convenient for those looking to get screenwriting tips while using the hand dryer.
And the screens themselves are dedicated to legends
of the film industry, including Michael Balcon from Ealing Studios and local boy Steve McQueen, who grew up in Ealing.
All of this is part of a big revival for cinema in this very cinematic corner of the city. Ealing Picturehouse joins the recently opened three-screen cinema and community center Ealing Project, just steps away from the historic Ealing Studios.
