Esther Freud is a British novelist who draws inspiration from her own life and the cultures she has encountered. She is the daughter of painter Lucian Freud and the great-granddaughter of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. She has lived and travelled in various countries, including Morocco, Germany, and Ireland. She is also an actress and a co-founder of a women’s theatre company.
Freud is best known for her debut novel, Hideous Kinky, which was adapted into a film starring Kate Winslet. The novel is based on her childhood experiences in Morocco with her mother and sister. She explores the themes of identity, belonging, and freedom in a foreign culture.
Freud has written eight more novels, each with a distinctive cultural setting and perspective. Her latest novel, I Couldn’t Love You More, is the story of three generations of Irish women who face the challenges of love, motherhood, and society.
