The iconic Titanic floating door, which famously kept Rose (Kate Winslet) afloat while Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) was left behind, has been auctioned off for a staggering sum.

During the Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event, the slab of balsa wood from James Cameron’s 1997 film fetched an impressive $718,750 (£567,000).

Despite being commonly referred to as a door, the auction clarified that the intricate structure was actually part of the door frame situated just above the ship’s first-class lounge entrance.

In addition to the Titanic door, other cinematic treasures were up for grabs at the Planet Hollywood auction. Harrison Ford’s iconic whip from Temple of Doom set a franchise auction record with a selling price of $525,000 (€484,000). The Holy Grail from The Last Crusade fetched an impressive $87,500 (€81,000).

Moreover, Jack Nicholson’s memorable “Here’s Johnny!” axe from Kubrick’s The Shining sold for a substantial €115,000. Bill Murray’s bowling ball from Kingpin found a buyer at $350,000 (€323,000), while Tobey Maguire’s sleek black symbiote suit from Spider-Man 3 went for $125,000 (€115,000).

With impressive sums being paid for film memorabilia, it is clear that collectors and fans alike are willing to pay top dollar for a piece of film history. This demonstrates the emotional connection that audiences have with beloved characters and scenes.
